Commentary: In May of 1948, the TGP’s longtime printer José Sánchez lost his right hand in an accident while working in a commercial printing house. He was able to adjust to his loss and after a long recovery resumed working at the TGP, as well as later on in his own lithographic workshop, until his death in 1996. While not strictly a portrait of Sánchez, Méndez’s print captures the agony and uncertainty about the future he must have felt at the moment of the accident. (Peter Schneider)

Comentario: En mayo de 1948, José Sánchez, impresor de mucho tiempo del TGP, perdió la mano derecha en un accidente de trabajo en una imprenta comercial. Supo adaptarse a su discapacidad y tras una larga recuperación, volvió a trabajar en el TGP, así como más tarde en su propio taller litográfico, hasta su fallecimiento en 1996. Aunque no es precisamente un retrato de Sánchez, el grabado de Méndez capta la agonía e incertidumbre sobre el futuro que debió sentir en el momento del accidente. (Peter Schneider)
