Cataloging note: A signed impression held by the Philadelphia Museum of Art is dated 32 in graphite. Academia de Artes 1970 gives the date as 1936. Neither date appears to be correct, in that the magazine Futuro, shown above Calles’s head, did not begin publication until  December 1933 and by 1936, Méndez was allied with Lombardo Toledano and would not have shown him as a puppet of Calles.
