Commentary: In 1938 the TGP created a series of twenty lithographic posters advertising anti-Nazi and anti-fascist lectures at the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) in Mexico City, sponsored by the Liga Pro-Cultura Alemana (the League for German Culture), a group of German anti-fascist political exiles in Mexico, Méndez’s print, created for the lecture, “Propaganda y espionaje nazis” (Nazi Propaganda and Spying), is a surreal composition featuring a headless torso, basically a shoulder and a pair of arms with enlarged hands, one of which holds a Molotov cocktail. In place of its head the figure has a megaphone that curves sinuously up out of an empty collar to point threateningly at the continent of North America, including Mexico. Inside the megaphone appear small swastikas, with wavy lines that indicate the noise emitted by this monstrous being. (Deborah Caplow)

Comentario: En 1938, el TGP creó una serie de veinte carteles litográficos para anunciar conferencias antinazis y antifascistas en el Palacio de Bellas Artes de Ciudad de México, patrocinadas por la Liga Pro-Cultura Alemana, un grupo de exiliados anti-fascistas alemanes. El grabado de Méndez, creado para la conferencia “Propaganda y espionaje nazis”, es una composición surrealista en la que aparece un torso sin cabeza, básicamente un hombro y un par de brazos con manos agrandadas, uno de los cuales sostiene un cóctel molotov. En lugar de la cabeza, la figura tiene un megáfono que se curva sinuosamente hacia arriba desde un cuello vacío para apuntar amenazadoramente al continente norteamericano, incluido México. En el interior del megáfono aparecen pequeñas esvásticas, con líneas onduladas que indican el ruido emitido por este ser monstruoso. (Deborah Caplow)
