Commentary: This wood engraving, the purpose of which is unknown, exemplifies Méndez’s Stridentist style, with its strong geometric tension, angular, diagonal composition, and modernist, jagged forms of the roofs in the background. At the same time, it demonstrates Méndez’s growing interest in workers in action and his increasing obrerismo (affinity with the working class), embedded in a claustrophobic setting.
